Element Technology Headquarters, Singapore, August 14, 2020 – Eletech, a highly innovative designer & atelier of boutique high-end audiophile cables unveiled the newest addition to the high performance ‘School Of Athens Series’ - “Socrates”.
Built upon Eletech’s wealth of R&D experience & expertise, the “Socrates” was born from the relentless pursuit of purity and extremities of a mono material - Copper. Unsurpassed within it’s class, the “Socrates” breaks down the predisposed stereotypes of Copper and manifests in a reference grade Copper that articulates emotions and texture.
Eletech’s Stellar Performance
Since Eletech’s debut in November 2019, Shanghai Canjam, the experienced ateliers has enjoyed widespread successes across their entire product portfolio with their unorthodox entry cables housed with “Virtues Series”, high performing reference grade “School Of Athens Series” as well as their class leading “Parnassus” series. Eletech’s “Iliad” and “Plato” has especially captivated the hearts of many in the audiophile community. Following the successful launches, Eletech’s R&D team returned to complete a development project that been in the pipelines - “Socrates”.
Drawing from the experiences derived from the development of “Plato” & “Iliad”, Eletech revisit HiFi attested Copper cables and materials and grasps the very essence of a high performing flagship Copper cable.
Background & Inspiration
Eletech “Socrates” is inspired by the "The School Of Athens" (Raphael). With key components design drawing references from the “Socratic Method” as well as “Socratic Irony”. Traversing the purist approach to developing this product, Eletech resolves to achieve a flagship-like copper performance that is highly technical while having the capacity to iterate emotions, technicalities and stereo imaging.
During the inception, Eletech referenced against many renowned HiFi and industry attested Copper cables in order to achieve a truly unique Copper cable that has a complete profile and is able to withstand the test of time. Coupled with the experiences and expertise input from Eletech’s materials engineers, the “Socrates” was created with with a Bespoke Monocrystal Copper that adheres to the targeted sound profile is are specifically selected to be free from defects and contaminants.
Design & Form Development
The Aesthetics form development of the “Socrates” draws its inspiration from the philosophy of “Socratic Method” which is based on forming questionable / argumentative foundations to invoking critical thinking and ideas.
The Y-Split is designed with an tessellation of polygons and triangles with 6 planes as well as angular points. The challenge was in creating a truly unique finish Y-Split that offers a unique tactile experience. The multifaceted of planes allows for an multidimensional intrusion and extrusion which challenges the industry norm of a flat plane Y-Split. Under regular lighting, users are able to view a rather fascinating play on lights reflection due to the multidimensional angular planes.
The presence of chamfer / fillets around the edges of the Y-Split allows for a fully ergonomic user experience. Plug design conforms to the Eletech Signature of faceted design which is both durable and creates a tactile experience that is not conventional within the industry. The triangular geometric facets also helps bolster the durability of the plug.
“Socrates” parts conforms to the color scheme of “Black/Copper” to be kept in synergy with the cable look.
Technology & Features
Eletech wanted the “Socrates” project to display an inherent highly dynamic soundscape with excellent texture and a highly emotive musicality presentation. Industry common OCC copper materials are unable to achieve Eletech’s projected sound direction for the “Socrates”. As such, Eletech attributed for a special configuration of 24awg Copper with very high strand interior counts.
Specifications in materials plays an important role in the stipulation of the projected sound - as such, Eletech designed unique 7N OCC Monocrystal Copper in order to cater to our needs. (Flawless Monocrystal Bespoke 7N OCC Copper). The material is specially processed as a single crystal refined Copper that is continuous and unbroken to achieve zero grain boundaries. This absence of grain boundary defects enhances the conductivity, giving it unique electrical properties and unsurpassed low electric resistivity, making it an highly conducive material for signal transmission.
In considerations of ergonomics, Eletech developed an in-house geometry stranding (Maximus efficiency strand geometry) that allows for variants of multiple sized strands of Coppers to be encapsulate within the insulation to keep the general diameter slim and fully packed with no wastage spots. This in-turn allowed for the exploration of inclusion of different strand sizes of materials to cater specifically for different frequency range (thin sized for high frequency ; thicker sized aids low frequencies).Geometric stability and volatility is a cause of concern with this implementation - ergo, the “Socrates” is infused Kevlar to hold the interior geometry.
Eletech’s bold approach in both cable design as well as the components design has been very well received by the audiophile community and the “Socrates” is no exception. Eletech has further improved on the various aspects of design and endeavors to create an all-new musical experience with the “Socrates”
Eletech Socrates Companion Case
“Socrates” comes with a “Eletech Companion Case” that is individually handcrafted from selects exclusive wine-red leather. The case would be a perfect complement to “Socrates” and the user’s accompanying in-ear monitors.
